Funny Acres - Maximum Gratification
When we first bought this place a few years ago, Tammy brought
her lone horse and all of her rabbits out from the Southwest, not
a small undertaking! Unfortunately, we didn't have rabbit cages
ready to house her herd yet, so we got the bright idea that we
could put all of the males in one horse stall and all of the females
in a stall several stalls away. The idea worked. They all had room
to romp around in security after being couped up on the road trip
and we had time to get some new cages.
On day two, all was well. The bunnies were all content and enjoying
the legroom. What could go wrong?
On day three, we found out. It seems that our industrious hares had
been quietly tunneling between stalls until they finally reached one
another. When Tammy discovered this, she was in tears. I wondered
what had upset her so much so I ventured out to the barn and saw
the males and females all mixed together, laying on their backs
and smoking cigarettes. They were some mighty content bunnies!
Fortunately the cages arrived on day four and all we could do was
wait to see what nature would do next. By some odd circumstance,
not one rabbit got pregnant after all of that 'fun'. While they
achieved maximum gratification, they fortunately didn't create
any new bunnies that Tammy couldn't track with her controlled
breeding.
But I'll never forget the sight of 40+ bunnies laying around in
various poses of contentment.
