First Look

AR35238When I reviewed the Italeri 1/35 80' Elco Torpedo Boat kit, I missed one little glitch - the decals. The drop shadow that the USN uses should be below the white hull number, but the kit has the shadow out of place. No biggie, Archer Fine Transfers to the rescue.

This new set of dry transfers provide five of the smaller hull numbers for the kit subject PT-596, plus the large number for the stern. The set also provides alternative markings for PT-588.

The set also includes a pair of transfers to create both sides of a WW2 era US flag.

The instructions walk you through the application of dry transfers and a good way to use the dry transfers to create a flag.

No information is provided on where markings were placed on these boats. While PT-596 is covered by the Italeri kit instructions, you'll need reference photos to verify that PT-588 had its markings in the 'standard' locations. These boats did vary a little over time. The instructions do not indicate which color scheme was used by the alternative boat, PT-588.

Archer's dry transfers are nicely done and are in perfect register. I highly recommended these to all modelers with a little building and finishing experience.
