Okay, you're looking at this review and are probably thinking
'great, another visual pattern decal', right? NOT SO FAST!
I saw some of Archer's earier offerings in this series and
I was really surprised. What we have here is not what you think.
These are decals that you apply BEFORE YOU PAINT.
Let's look at one of our past projects, say an Italeri tank
or Monogram aircraft. Somewhere along the line, you had to
do some filling and sanding to get the seams into realistic
proportions. Unfortunately, many of the surface details around
those seams disappeared in the process.
Archer Fine Transfers has come up with a brilliant solution.
These are still waterslide decals, but there are precisely
placed resin patterns applied to the clear decal film, in this
case rivets or screw heads. Just before paint, simply select
the rivet spacing and the length of rivet pattern you want,
apply the decal(s) to the surface of your model, then paint.
The decal disappears, but the raised resin patterns emerge
out of the paint!
Archer offers a variety of patterns including simple lines
of varying thickness that are perfect for restoring raised
panel lines on Monogram kits. At last, here is a simple method
to repair the surface detailing on your kit or to add details
that are missing.
Definitely recommended!
My sincere thanks to Archer
Fine Transfers for this review sample.
