Aviaeology Decals has released an interesting set (four actually) - Imperial Japanese Navy generic tailcodes in 280mm height size (1/48 scaled of course). This set is printed in your choice of black, red, yellow, or white lettering, each with four sets of Japanese alphabet, four sets of Latin alphbet, and an ample supply of numerals. The printing is sharp and each letter/number is on its own clear carrier.
While many modelers are happy with the markings that come in the kit box, some modelers want to change up the markings to render an aircraft out of the same squadron or one from a completely different unit. With the variety of Japanese language references such as those from Model Art to guide you, all you need are some general purpose markings like these to make that possible. Kudos to Aviaeology for filling this void considering all of the subjects that have been released in 1/48 for IJN aircraft.

My sincere thanks to Aviaeology Decals for this review sample!
