The SR-71 40 years later is still one of the most recognizable
aircraft in the world. Surrounded by mystery and secrecy it
flew missions until 1990 and was retired from NASA in 1999.
You would think that such a special aircraft would not have
received any special markings other than subdued serials and
some warning stencils.
Cutting Edge managed to unearth all kinds of special markings
the Blackbird ever wore and presented them in two decal sets.
One set (CED 48292) has eight different SR-71s plus a very
cool King Cobra decal and the other set (48293) has four very
colorful SR-71s but just as importantly it contains one SR-71B
two seater and a YF-12A.
Markings are provided for eight aircraft:
- SR-71A, 61-7958, Habu
- SR-71A, 61-7962, Skull and Cross Bones
- SR-71A, 61-7971, Spuds Surfer
- SR-71A, 61-7972, 'Charlies Problem'
- SR-71A, 61-7974, 'Ichi Ban'
- SR-71A, 61-7976, Tiger Head
- SR-71A, 61-7978, 'Rapid Rabbit'
- SR-71A, 61-7980, 'Rosemarys Baby-San'
Notable items are the little history notes for each scheme
and especially the comments about the history behind the certain
tail designs!
The decals were purchased from Meteor just days before shutting
down ops for ever.
Highly recommended! (If you can find a set.)
