Flying Leathernecksis a new brand under Orion Scale Models which is all owned and operated by Dave Roof, USMC, so you'll know he has a passion for the Corps and this latest release is no exception.

F/A-18D F/A-18D F/A-18D

In this set, Flying Leathernecks offers markings for two US Marine Corps F/A-18D Hornets as well as two Kuwaiti AF Deltas in a distinctive three-color wrap-around camouflage scheme.

The aircraft presented in this set are:

  • F/A-18D, 165413, VMFA(AW)-121, VK/01, Al Asad AB, Iraq, OIF 2007
  • F/A-18D, 164652, VMFA(AW)-242, DT/01, MCAS Miramar, 2000
  • F/A-18D, 443, 9 Sqn, Kuwaiti AF
  • F/A-18D, 446, 25 Sqn, Kuwaiti AF

The decals are printed by Cartograf and you can see that there are no multi-layered decals that you must overlay to recreate this artwork. Every marking is presented as a single decal and the printing is crisp and in-register. The color profiles show the decal placements for all four examples, but the profiles are limited to left and right side views. Not too critical for the USMC Hornets, but it will make painting the camouflage a guessing game for the two Kuwaiti Hornets.

My sincere thanks to Flying Leathernecks Decals for this review sample!
