First Look

Flying Leathernecks has released a new series of decals that address modern USN/USMC aircraft weapons. You'll note that the instructions list the Marine Corps before the Navy (for some obvious reason) but as I am frequently reminded, the US Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy - the Men's Department. IYAOYAS adds a bit more esprit de corps with its inherent meaning - If You Ain't Ordnance You Ain't S**t.

In this release, we have markings for the BLU-111A/B (essentially a Mk.82 with the special coating to provide protection against fuel fires on the flight deck), Mk.82 w/BSU-38, GBU-38 JDAM, GBU-12, AGM-65E Laser Maverick, AGM-65F IR Maverick, and the AN/AAQ-28 LITENING pod.

The weapons stencils presented in this set are:

  • GBU-12 x 12
  • BLU-111A/B or GBU-38 x 24
  • Mk.82 w/BSU-38 fin stencils x 24
  • AGM-65E x 2
  • AGM-65F x 2
  • LITENING x 2

This is a really nice set of decals to stock up on for your future projects. Hopefully we'll see more of these very useful sets in the future as well as seeing these same sheets scaled up to 1/32 for those nice Academy 1/32 Hornets.

My sincere thanks to Flying Leathernecks Decals for this review sample!
