First Look

Leading Edge has released an interesting new decal set commemorating 100 years of flight for the Canadian Air Force. At first blush, you might read this as 100 years of flight for the CF-18 and while the Hornet is getting on in years, it hasn't been around THAT long.

CF-18 CF-18

This decal set is a beautifully comprehensive package that provides two sheets of decals with all of the various patterns and transition colors around the airframe in addition to the distinctive and commemorative markings. In addition, a sheet of vinyl masks are included to help painting the Hasegawa airframe.

The aircraft in question is:

  • CF-18A, 188719, CAF, 2009

The instructions provide in-depth diagrams for painting, decal placement, and even color shots of the real aircraft so you can see what some of the details are supposed to look like. No doubt that there are a variety of good photographs online to help you along as well.

This is a very nice addition to the Leading Edge's array of subjects and will provide some colorful options for the 1/72 scale Academy Hornet kit.

My sincere thanks to Leading Edge Decals for this review sample!
