Mike Grant is an entrepreneur in the true tradition of say Mike
West of Lone Star Models or Bob Sanchez at TwoBob Decals. He is
a one man band doing it all himself. Mike will do his best to get
you what you want as fast as he can but ask you to remember, he
is the one and only employee of Mike Grant Decals.
There are two different thoughts on the “Smoke Ring” decals.
One camp cries that it is the end of model building and the other
camp cries “Praise the gods of decals” Now I can not
ruin a good build by a bad paint job. To say the smoke ring paint
scheme is ambitious is an understatement. Mike takes this anxiety
out of your hands with these decals. They are printed on a full
sheet of carrier film and need to be trimmed out. They are molded
on actual Macchi camouflage patterns and are intentionally “Off-Color” to
blend into the right shade of green when placed over the tan paint.
The edges are finely feathered and the patterns are spot on. I
can’t wait to try these out.
These decals can compare with the big dogs in quality and accuracy.
I highly recommend these decals but you have to remember that Mike
does what he can when he can. If you are looking for a same day
turnaround or overnight delivery, you will be disappointed but
I will tell you that every day you wait is well worth every minute.
Because of his short run and that these sheets are not produced
by the thousands, the price is a bit higher than say, SuperScale.
Again, I say, worth every penny. Right now you can only get the
decals at Mike’s website. And as of this writing, he does
accept PayPal payment. Check out the other offerings Mike has.
He also has this set (72-043) in 1/72 scale for $11.00. You
will not be disappointed.
