A short while ago, I was digging through my stash of armor kits.
I opened the 3 1/35th scale resin kits, of Hungarian armor subjects,
by Botond. These were ones that I traded a fellow in Hungary for.
He wanted some of my company’s Armor Research armor accessories.
These kits came without any decals. I put out a call on Hyperscale
to see if anybody had some Hungarian national markings that they
could spare. Mike Grant sent me an e-mail that he could help me
out.
He asked me what size I would need, so I ran a ruler over the
3 kits and told him the sizes I needed. He responded that he was
going to custom make these decals for me. I then became aware that
he runs a company that produces and sells aircraft model decals.
A few of his sheets have already been reviewed here and these
reviews can be found in the decal archives.
After coming home from my trip to New Jersey, for my Mom’s
90th birthday party, I found an envelope from Mike from Canada.
It had the custom made Hungarian decals, and 4 other sheets in
the envelope for me to review.
The 3rd sheet Mike sent me is of finely printed rivets, including
useful shapes and arched sections for curved surfaces. There are
also round, square and rectangle shapes that can be used for either
inspection panels or even for instrument panel bezels etc. These
are in various sizes and the sheet can be used for multiple scales.
The decal comes in a set of 2 sheets. One is in dark gray and
should look good on a dark airframe. The second sheet is done in
silver.
There are no instructions in the set. However, it does not take
a lot of brain-work to figure out the multiple ways these can be
used.
The 4th sheet that mike sent me has already been reviewed, in
the past, on this site. It is in the archives under decals. This
is the sheet for Italian “Smoke Ring” camouflage in
1/48th scale. So, I will not review it again. Suffice it to say
it is damn nice.
Highly recommended.
I want to thank Mike for this B-24 review decal. I especially
want to thank him for the custom-made Hungarian marks. Mike does
custom decals on special orders, but he currently is not taking
commissions.
