First Look

MPD Decals released this rather interesting decal-based biography of Stanislaw Skalski, a Polish fighter pilot that had only been commissioned a few months before the invasion of Germany, but in that time had shot down six German aircraft, even landing by one to help the crew out of the wreckage!

After the fall of Poland, Skalski escaped to England and was commissioned into the RAF. During his service with the RAF, initially posted to 501 Sqn during the Battle of Britain, then to 306 Sqn. In 1942, Ft Lt Skalski was given command of 317 Sqn for five months before moving to 145 Sqn for action in North Africa.

Later Sqn Leader Skalski commanded 131 (Polish) Fighter Wing and then 133 Fighter Wing. After the war, he returned to Poland to be thanked for his fight against the Germans by being sentenced to death by the new Stalinist government, commuted to life in prison. After the death of Stalin, Skalski was miraculously rehabilitated and released where he returned to serve in the Polish Air Force until his retirement in 1969 as General Stanislaw Skalski. General Skalski passed away on 12 Nov 2004.

This decal set reflects the aircraft that Skalski flew during his early service in the Polish Air Force and during the war in the RAF.

This set includes the following subjects:

  • PZL P.11c, 142 Ftr Group
  • Hurricane Mk.I, V7118, UZ-V, 306 Sqn
  • Spitfire Mk.Vb, BM131, JH-Q, 317 Sqn
  • Spitfire Mk.IX, EN459, ZX-1, 145 Sqn
  • Spitfire Mk.IX, EN267, ZX-5, 145 Sqn
  • Spitfire Mk.IX, EN315, ZX-6, 145 Sqn

  • Spitfire Mk.VIII, JF447, UF-7, 601 Sqn

This set of markings will provide a wide range of colorful RAF subjects as flown by General Skalski during his service. If you're looking for some interesting subjects for your next project, give these a try.

My sincere thanks to for this review sample!
