PYN-up Decals is one the beautiful decal lines from Meteor
Productions, the PYN standing for "Pick Your Noseart". So what's
different about these decals?
First, they've selected more
intricate subjects, some of which have been done by other manufacturers.
Second, the markings that are solid color by definition (national
markings, ID codes, etc.) are provided as standard decals.
Even the noseart backgrounds are provided as standard decals.
What's different is that the noseart is printed
with a difference process which allows for photo-quality gradations
of color instead of the pixel-dithered colors we're accustomed
to in normal decals. The result is a stunning rendition of
noseart that has never before been accurately rendered!
This set covers two P-47D Bubbletop Thunderbolts:
- P-47D-28-RA, 42-29150, 511 FS/405 FG/9 AF, K4-S, 'Dottie
Mae', as flown by Lt Larry A Kuhl, Spring 1945
- P-47D-28-RA, 42-28627, 63 FS/56 FG/8 AF, UN-M, 'Shack Rat',
Boxted, England, 1944

Look at that color nose art. Those color shading effects capture
the look of the original nose art and you can see how these
would be nearly impossible to replicate using standard decal
printing processes. Even an Alps printer, while maybe getting
close to replicating the color shading, would be doing so with
very visible pixel dots on the decal to create the look from
a distance. With these and all PYN-Ups, the decals look great
at any distance. Appropriate national markings, airframe identification
and aircraft stenciling are also included on separate 'standard'
decal sheets.
While this set was targeted for the recently released Hasegawa
1/32 Bubbletop Jug, there should be no problems using these
on other 1/32 Bubbletops, most notably the upcoming Trumpeter
kit.
Highly recommended!
My sincere thanks to Meteor Productions
for this review sample!
