There you are, minding your own business when not one, but
TWO companies release state of the art, late-model F-16C Fighting
Falcons (AKA Viper). The Tamiya Viper is an F-16CJ Block 50.
There are no parts present for other options out of the box,
but there are hints of other variants to come. Academy's Viper
will build either a Pratt or GE-powered F-16CG or F-16CJ, that
translates into Blocks 40, 42, 50 and 52. The Tamiya kit comes
with some breathtaking engineering. If the Academy kit is anything
like their recent F/A-18C, then the fights on!
Whether you build one or the other (or both!), you're going
to need some options unless you want your prize Viper to look
like everyone else. TwoBobs to the rescue! You just know they
weren't going to leave this subject alone!
In this set, we have two 23rd Fighter Wing Vipers that carry
on the Flying Tiger tradition of the sharkmouth and wear the
FT tailcode. These aircraft, all stationed at Pope AFB, NC,
are big-mouth, GE-powered Block 40 Vipers. The first aircraft
is the 74th FS Commander's aircraft while the second is a
line aircraft from the 74th.
The two aircraft in this set are:
- F-16CG Block 40, 90-0776, 74 FS/23 FW, Squadron Commander's
aircraft, 1994
- F-16CG Block 40, 88-0516, 74 FS/23 FW, 1994
Maintenance stencils are provided for one example.
I don't know about you, but I have a thing for sharkmouthed
aircraft, and seeing the tradition of the Flying Tiger sharkmouths
carry on from P-40 through A-10 and onto the F-16 is just too
cool. If you're going to be adding one or more of these beautiful
Tamiya/Academy Vipers to your scale flightline, then you'll
definitely want to get this set as well! This set is highly
recommended!
