TwoBobs Decals has returned with a very welcome sight indeed.
These are the markings for the return of the Sundowners. You'll
recall that a few years ago, VF-111 stood down as their Tomcats
were retired, and unlike many other squadrons, the Sundowners
didn't transition into the Super Hornet. Just a few months
ago, the Sundowners have been reactivated, but this time they've
'turned to the dark side' - they've been commissioned as VFC-111,
a Navy Reserve aggressor squadron flying mostly surplus USAF
F-5E Tiger II out of NAS Key West FL.
This very welcome decal sheet is tailored for the Hasegawa
1/32 F-5E kit and represents the CO's mount proudly wearing
Sundowner colors, as well as two line aircraft. The aircraft
represented are:
- F-5E, 76-1548, VFC-111, AF/101, Squadron Commander's aircraft
- F-5E, 76-1537, VFC-111, AF/41
- F-5E, 76-1527, VFC-111, AF/44
This decal set is presented on two decal sheets and are nicely
printed. Several of the markings require two layers be applied
to the decal surface, but one of the advantages of this technique
is the white background printed on the bottom layer to prevent
camouflage colors from shifting the colors of some of these
markings.
This set is highly recommended!
