Here is an interesting set of decals to replicate the USAF's
latest gem on the airshow scene, the QF-4E Phantom II. Several
of these aircraft have been give (at least a temporary) reprieve
from target status to participate in the Heritage Flight program.
Heritage Flight grew out of the popularity of USAF and USAAF
subjects flying together at airshows. While it was ad-hoc in
its infancy, it is now a serious venture today complete with
training and safety. In the midst of teaming up line aircraft
(A-10, F-15, F-16, F-22) with corresponding warbirds (P-47,
P-51, F-86, etc.), the Air Force has updated several of their
still-operational QF-4E Phantom IIs from Tyndall and add them
to selected airshows as well. I really wish they'd thought
of this while there were F-100s still available!
The two subjects of this sheet are:
- QF-4E, 74-1652, 53 WEG, Tyndall AFB, FL, May 2004
- QF-4E, 73-1171, 53 WEG, Tyndall AFB, FL, Mar 2006
You'll need to pay attention to the bumps and antennas that
have been added to these aircraft as part of their 'Team Target'
duties as well as safety updates for public operations. The
instructions have some nice photos of the aircraft that was
marked up with these schemes.
This set is highly recommended!
