TwoBobs has released a rather unique set of markings for an
A-7D that represents the 354th's first (aborted) attempt at
a sharksmouth while TDY to Korat RTAFB for Linebacker II. The
story that accompanies this decal sheet is hysterical and puts
the whole event into perspective. You can see by the scrap
photos the short-lived 'molar marauder' artwork, the nose of
the same aircraft sans the artwork, and the eventual 'proper'
sharkmouths that would adorn the Corsair II for decades to
follow.
TwoBobs has provided these markings with both 1/48 and 1/32
on the same sheet. In general, the artwork is nicely done and
the molar mouth includes the antenna dilectrics that go on
either side of the inlet. The only downside to this release
is a continuing trend with TwoBobs Decals - the national markings
are World War Two era stars and bars, with the post-war red
bars printed separately and you're expected to add these yourself.
If you want to do this unique subject, by all means, but use
the kit's national markings and toss these out (or save them
for a suitable WW2 project).
Aside from this minor glitch, this set is recommended!
