Who would have dreamed that the skies over NAS Atsugi would
no longer be filled with Tomcats in the pattern? Time moves
on and the new kid on the block is the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
Assuming the role of first fighter squadron of Carrier Air
Wing 5 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk is VFA-102, the Diamondbacks.
This squadron made their transition from the F-14 to the Super
Hornet a few years ago. Even so, the unit history of VF-102
dates back to the early days of jet-powered naval aviation.
In June 2005, VFA-102 celebrated its 50th anniversary with
a special Diamondback paint scheme on the commander's aircraft.
This new decal set from TwoBobs provides all of the markings
and more visible maintenance stencils for this commemorative
Super Hornet. The aircraft in question is:
- F/A-18F, BuNo 165882, VFA-102, NF/102, NAS Atsugi, June
2005
The printing is perfectly in register. The instructions are
printed double-sided in color, providing excellent color scheme
as well as decal placement information. This set will definitely
colorize the Hasegawa or Italeri 1/72 F/A-18F kits. Recommended!
