TwoBobs Decals has returned with what I believe are the first
decal releases covering VFA-31 after their transition out of
the F-14 Tomcat. VF-31 'Tomcatters' was the last US Navy squadron
to operate the F-14 Tomcat. When the Tomcat Sunset passed,
the F-14s were either mothballed or sent out to museums. VF-31
started its transition into the Super Hornet, though I thought
former Tomcat squadrons were transitioning to the two-seat
F/A-18F. VFA-31 lost their RIOs as this squadron moved into
the single-place F/A-18E.
The aircraft
represented are:
- F/A-18E, 166776, VFA-31, AJ/100, CAG CVW-8, NAS Oceana
- F/A-18E, 166784, VFA-31, AJ/110, NAS Oceana
This decal set is presented on two decal sheets and are nicely
printed. Several of the markings require two layers be applied
to the decal surface, but one of the advantages of this technique
is the white background printed on the bottom layer to prevent
camouflage colors from shifting the colors of some of these
markings.
This set is highly recommended!
