If you've been keeping up with recent events, you've seen
the nice array of AMS Resin detailed resin cockpits for the
Revell/Monogram, Kinetic, and FM/Heller F-84F kits as well
as for the FM/Heller RF-84F kits. Well AMS Resin didn't stop
there. They've been working on a variety of new subjects, and
this set takes care of another pet peeve out there in the modeling
world.
The Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-4 Phantom II kits are still the
best Phantoms in 1/48 scale and are only second to Tamiya's
1/32 Phantoms for overall quality and detail. Nevertheless,
one of the weaknesses of the Hasegawa Phantoms as well as the
Monogram F-4s is looking down the intakes. These end in blank
plates down the duct. There are aftermarket options to fix
this which include seamless ducts that curve realistically
to the front of the engines, but some modelers don't want to
go to all of the time and trouble of modifying the kit. There
is another solution!
AMS Resin has created crisply detailed resin FOD covers for
your intakes. No need for surgery or mods to the kit, just
insert these into the intakes just like the real covers, and
you're finished. Oh yes, you might want to paint them first...
These intakes are good for all of the Hasegawa and Monogram
J79-powered Phantoms which include all USAF, USN, USMC, JASDF,
and Israeli F-4s, as well as the F-4J(UK) Phantoms that were
put into service by the RAF from USN surplus to operate out
of the Falklands after that conflict concluded. These are not
designed for the Rolls Royce Spey-powered Phantoms from Hasegawa
labeled as F-4K, F-4M, FG.1, and FGR.2.
This is a simple conversion to help cover up those empty intake
ducts.
Recommended for experienced modelers!
