If you've been modeling for any period of time, you've probably
heard of Armor Research and their like of detail parts for
1/35 armor subjects. The company is owned by our own Ray Mehlberger
and I had to ask him why we don't see much of his stuff these
days. Like many aftermarket companies, Armor Research has been
selling direct to the modeler. A link to the website is at
the end of this review.
Ray was kind enough to send a few samples out
of his current production line-up. In this case, here is a
simple photo-etch set of
headlight, tail light, siren, and periscope
guards for the Sherman and its
derivatives.
These guards are usually too thick in scale
when molded in styrene, and even then, they are delicate to
work with. Being made from photo-etched brass, these details
can be shaped and applied using cyano adhesives and are definitely
not brittle. In fact, once they're in place, you can apply
'field wear' by bending them to represent normal wear and
tear.
At $5.00, this set is very inexpensive to update
those thick details on your Sherman. Give 'em a try. You can
purchase this set directly from Armor Research at:
