Cobra Company has really been busy lately! They've turned out
no less than four detail sets for Trumpeter's impressive 1/35 CH-47
Chinook kits.
This detail set tackles one of the detail shortcomings in the
Trumpeter kit - the lack of detail up inside the rear rotor pylon.
If this was a C-130, when the ramp and door are open, the door
would cover most of the opening in the rear rotor pylon, but in
the CH-47, the door actually stows inside the ramp. If you display
your Chinook with the ramp down, there is nothing to keep the viewer
from seeing a lack of detail up there.
This detail set provides the structural frames inside the pylon,
the lower rear transmission housing, visible drive shaft, auxiliary
power unit (APU), structural support and actuators for the rear
loading ramp, hydraulic subsystems, and more. Even so, the instructions
tell you that this area was visibly busy with wiring, cables, hydraulic
lines, etc., all things that cannot be effectively replicated with
resin. The AMS modeler going to the trouble to install this detail
set will want to get some good photo references to represent the
wiring and plumbing in scale.
With this set and the others released for the Trumpeter
kit, your CH-47A kit will definitely be an eye-opener!
This set is definitely recommended for the 'Hook' modeler and
is available directly from Cobra
Company (www.cobracompany.com).
My sincere thanks to Cobra
Company (www.cobracompany.com) for this review sample!
