If you haven't visited the Cobra Company website recently, you
haven't seen the interesting research (and fun) that Chris Miller
has been doing - he has restored a full-scale OV-1 Mohawk nose!
So when you look at a resin detail set for the Mohawk cockpit,
you'll see that this was a labor of love as well!
This set is designed for the 1/48 scale OV-1D Mohawk kit released
by Roden in 2006. This set represents the AN/ALQ-147(V)1 "Hot
Brick" infrared countermeasures (IRCM) that was carried on an underwing
pylon. The "Hot Brick" was designed to jam the SA-7 man-portable
air defense (MANPAD) shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile (SAM)
that started appearing in Vietnam in quantity during the early
1970s.
The set contains the jammer pod, intake air scoop, exhaust duct,
four stabilizer fins, a rear protective cover, and the exposed
jammer elements. The instructions indicate that the pod could
be carried on any of the three pylons under either wing and also
provides painting intructions as well.
This set is definitely recommended for the Mohawk modeler and
will provide another essential detail for your combat OV-1D Mohawk.
This detail set is available directly from Cobra
Company (www.cobracompany.com).
My sincere thanks to Cobra
Company (www.cobracompany.com) for this review sample!
