One detail that has been missing from the 1/32 F-105s is the electronic countermeasures
(ECM) pods carried by the Thud for self protection. Two ALQ-71s were usually carried on
the outboard pylons. These pods were self-powered using a ram air turbine (RAT) which is
a small propeller on the front of the pod that drives a generator inside.
This set includes two pods, a selection of nose caps for the RAT or non-RAT
versions of the pod, plus a 'bobbed' tail cone to match the various configurations of
the pods flown in Vietnam (check your references).
Cast in light gray resin, these parts require the removal of the corresponding
sections of the kit, but assembly is simple and instructions walk you
though the process.
This is a nice addition for the Trumpeter Thud kits to give it a much more
accurate profile.
Highly recommended!
My sincere thanks to Meteor Productions for this review sample!
