The Trumpeter 1/32 P-40B/C is not a bad kit, though it did suffer from a
too shallow cockpit. Thanks to Cutting Edge, a new cockpit is available
that corrects this deficiency. When Trumpeter released the same kit in
1/48th scale, they pantographed their existing kit down and brought along
the same cockpit problems. Once again, Cutting Edge has come to the rescue.
This set replaces the molded-on cockpit details on the fuselage walls with
new sidewalls at the correct depth and detail. These mate with the new
floor (upper wing) surface, forward bulkhead, rear bulkhead, instrument panel,
rudder pedals, control stick, hydraulic pump handle, seat and seat frame.
Cast in light gray resin, these parts require the removal of the interior
details on the kit, but assembly is simple and instructions walk you
though the process.
This is a nice update for the Trumpeter 1/48 P-40B/C, just as the larger 1/32
set dressed up the Trumpeter 1/32 P-40B/C kit. You can get this set directly
from Meteor Productions (www.meteorprod.com).
My sincere thanks to Meteor Productions for this review sample!
