U-2R/TR-1A Hortizontal Stabilizers

Testors/Italeri have produced the only U-2R and TR-1 styrene kit in 1/48 scale on the market. While the kit has been around a while, it is still a very nice model and builds into a great representation of the real aircraft. What the kit lacked was a little detail in the cockpit and wheel wells.

In the last few years, Cutting Edge released a variety of detail sets for not only the Testors/Italeri U-2R/TR-1A kits, but also the Hawk/Testors U-2A and U-2C kits as well. These sets have taken a very nice model and added some contest-quality detailing in all of the right places.

So if these previous sets have fixed up the two versions of the U-2 spyplanes, what's up with this one? The U-2R/TR-1A kit provides boundary layer fences on one side of the horizontal stabilizers, but the real aircraft evidently has the fences on both sides of the stabs. This very simple conversion set replaces the kit stabs with nicely cast resin stabs and provides that additional over-looked detail to your project. This is about the closest you'll get to a no-brainer resin conversion.
