When Trumpeter released its nice-looking 1/24 Fw 190D-9, I
was really surprised when the aftermarket community didn't
release a variety of mods and markings. The basic kit is actually
quite nice straight out of the box, though the main landing gear
wheels are a bit soft on details. You can read the kit review here.
Contact-Résine of France does some really impressive casting
and this latest release is no exception. This set is a pair of
replacement main landing gear wheels and tires. The details on
the wheel hubs are nicely represented, right down to the retainer
pin running through the hollow axle. The tires are likewise nicely
done (hard to the the tread pattern here) but will look magnificent
after painting and weathering. The tires are even weighted (bulged)
at the bottom to properly depict the aircraft at rest.
Given that the main gear sticks prominently out ahead of the aircraft,
the wheels are very visible details that will enhance your project
with little effort. This is a very nice improvement to the Fw 190D-9
kit.
This set is definitely recommended!
