Contact-Résine has returned with another interesting set:
a superdetailed resin Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine in 1/32
scale. Two different versions of the engine have been released
- this one representing the early version of the R2800 and set
CK32033 representing the late R2800. Which set correearlys to
which model numbers of the R2800 is information that I don't readily
have on hand, but the difference between these two engines is the
front of the gearbox and magnetos. Check your references to see
which one belongs in your next project.
So which aircraft were powered by the R2800? These included:
- A-26 Invader
- AF Guardian
- B-26 Marauder
- C-46 Commando
- C-118
- C-131 Samaritan
- F4U Corsair
- F6F Hellcat
- F7F Tigercat
- P-47 Thunderbolt
- P-61 Black Widow
- and many more!
Each set comes with a resin engine crankcase, 21 cylinders, an
ignition ring, carburetor, dual magnetos, and an array of intake
manifold plumbing. You'll need stretched sprue or brass wire for
the pushrods and you'll use the enclosed copper wire for the ignition
wiring. You'll need to adapt or fabricate your own exhaust manifold
and/or stacks as each aircraft had its own exhaust design.
This is an incredible model of its own right and would look great
on a scratchbuilt engine stand, but you'll also want to hang this
on engine mounts on the front end of your Trumpeter Corsair, Hasegawa
Hellcat, or your next R2800-powered scratchbuild project.
You can purchase this
set online from Design & Marketing
International.
My sincere thanks to Design & Marketing
International for this review sample!
