Here we have an early preview of a brand new product from
a brand new company!
I just received it in a small package safely wrapped in bubble
wrap. This is a conversion/update for the Classic Airframes
Do.17Z tailplane. The sample I received is molded in a light
tan resin and it is very nicely cast.
I did not notice any pinholes at all on the resin surfaces.
The casting is done really well and it is surprising how well
some of the almost paper thin surfaces came out.
I feel that it will be really easy to separate the parts and
prep them for use.
Now I have to confess that I am no Do.17 expert. Yes, I do
have the Classic Airframes kit but then again I have all of
the Classic kits going all the way back to Classic Resin Airframes!
This conversion made me think and search the web and some
books to see what was really being fixed. Sure enough there
is enough evidence out there that there is more detail than
what could have been captured by a plastic kit. The conversion
will easily address that.
An item I would like to point out is that the resin conversion
also includes a very nice fabric effect on the flying surfaces.
I tried to show it in my photos but it very subtle and can
be seen when the light hits the resin at the proper angle.
The plastic kit has smooth elevators.
With the resin set the modeler also gets very sharp trailing
edges, while with the plastic kit it is up to the modeler to
sharpen them.
I took out my Classic kit and opened it up to see how things
would go together. It is obvious that the modeler would have
to cut some plastic out of the rear fuselage and replace it
with the resin parts. The fuselage tail cone is also supplied
as a separate resin part. It does not look like there would
be any difficulties adapting this resin conversion to the kit.
This conversion is available at Relish
Models. It is always nice to see new companies coming to
the modeling scene with products that will improve the look of
our kits.
This set is very much recommended to the demanding modelers
and the Luftwaffe experten!
My sincere thanks to DMold for this review sample!
