Eduard from the Czech Republic is easily the most prolific
producer of aftermarket details. Period. Their series of photo-etched
detail sets have brought additional fidelity to otherwise bland
subjects, and have taken even the best-produced models and
kicked them up a notch or two with details that cannot be produced
with injection-molded plastic.
When Eduard first introduced the acetate-printed instrument
faces that go behind their photo-etched instrument panels,
this raised the bar on model cockpit reality as you could almost
read the time on the aircraft clock.
In this release, Eduard has really steps up the exterior detailing
of the Humber kit. If you haven't looked, the Bronco
Models 1/35 Humber Mk.I kit is a beautiful bit of work
and has lots of details inside and out. With all of that detail,
why would you need a set like this? The answer is simple, many
modelers would be quite satisfied with the kit out of the box,
but many AMS modelers recognize that many of the details are
just too thick, not because of any fault of Bronco Models,
merely there is a limit to injection molding technology. That
is where Eduard excels. This set compliments Eduard's Interior
Detail Set reviewed here.
This set replaces the styrene stowage racks and even the
overhead sliding hatches with photo-etch. This provides much
more realistic thickness to the parts to make the kit appear
to be in scale in thickness as well as size. In addition, the
set has lots of fender brackets, tool storage brackets, and
engine compartment details.
To help show off that detail, the kit also provides a photo-etched
multi-part hood assembly which can be build removable or even
posed open to show off those nice details inside.
The instructions clearly show you how and where everything
goes together. Plan on taking your time and plan on taking
some time to get all of this together as this is not a project
for an evening or a weekend (unless you're really experienced
and have the right tools).
When you're done however, your Humber will look
great and you can display the interior open with pride.
This set is definitely recommended for the experienced modeler!
My sincere thanks to Eduard for this review sample!
