White Ensign Models continues to expand its product lines into
broader areas and this detail set is no exception. While remaining
within the Naval theme of their business, they're pushing into
1/72 naval aircraft with their photo-etch detail sets. This latest
release is designed to dress up the Airfix 1/72 TBD Devastator
kit.
This is actually one of two detail sets for the Devastator kit.
This set provides some nice detail for the aircraft exterior.
This set starts off with some nicely detailed wingfolds complete
with hinge details
The next feature is photo-etched boxes to box in the huge main
landing gear wells. Another major improvement is the replacement
for the bomb aimer's window under the pilot. This replacement includes
the doors that cover the window and are positionable open or closed.
Finally, the set also includes photo-etched propellers for the torpedo and a
nice replacement for the unique pitot-static head on the TBD.
The instructions provide good references for parts assembly and
placement, plus some useful notes for colors and references to
point the modeler in the right direction.
This set is designed to work with White Ensign Models' Detail
Set PE7218 - Interior Detail Set.
As you can see in the photo, the detail set is not complex, but
it is thorough and will turn the exterior of the 1/72 TBD Devastator
into a scale replica. This set is definitely recommended!
My sincere thanks to White
Ensign Models for this review sample!
