Here is a VERY impressive set from the dockyards of White Ensign
Models - a two-fret photo-etch detail set for the recent Revell/Germany
1/72 Type VIIC U-Boat. As you might expect, the set provides several
detail enhancements to the conning tower to 'detail up' the already
impressive kit. What you don't know is that this set adds numerous
details left off the kit as well as optional details that were
unique to specific boats.
The set starts with detailed torpedo doors for the bow and stern
tubes. Hand and foot rails are also provided for the attack periscope
mounting assembly. Even scale stiffeners for the periscope itself
are provided.
A compass and torpedo aiming sight mount are provided for the
conning tower as are nice hatch details. Nice details are also
provided to enhance the 20mm gun mount. Even upper and lower cable
cutter assemblies are rendered in photo-etch to add that eye-catching
detail to the bow.
For early Type VIIC boats, the set includes the diesel air vent
that mounts just aft of the periscope mount. Standard and modified
tower vent grilles are also included in the set.
The most impressive (and potentially eye-crossing) options incuded
in this set are the conning tower fairings and associated radars
that were fitted to many boats. Your choices of radar include:
FuMo29, FuMo 30, FuMo 61, and Naxos (check your references for
the boat you're building. The Fumo 29, 30 and 61 radars include
lots of scale dipole elements that ought to make for an impressive
display (if your eyes don't cross during assembly!). .

Ensign Models website for more information on this set and

This set is definitely recommended!
My sincere thanks to White Ensign
Models for this review sample.
