First Look

Sunix Hobbies from Australia produces an interesting array of diorama and vignette display bases. Unlike bases from other manufacturers though, these come pre-painted, pre-weathered, and ready to work.

This display base for example, consists of a 12cm x 12cm (4.7" x 4.7") base and a corner of what was a building. Like the other display bases in this series, the base is pre-finished in two color schemes:

  • Summer Version (this one)
  • Winter Version

You can visit their website to see the variations in color and weathering to match those themes.

I've really been impressed with the quality of the prefinished based from Sunix Models, but this one is a completely different story. I wound up staring at this one for quite a while. Look at what is left of those wood floors. Look at that brick detail inside of the walls. That is some incredible detail, but look at that rubble pile in the corner. In addition to piles of brick and cement, there is a two-drawer end-table that has been knocked over with one drawer open and its contents spilled out. Look again at that detail! It would almost be a shame to put any figures into that scene! Nevertheless, a couple of well-selected figures in that scene would tell quite a story without much effort.

You can purchase this display base directly from Sunix Hobbies and check out their other interesting display bases and figures.

My sincere thanks to Sunix Hobbies for this review sample!
