New to Garage Kits? Read
this first!!
One of my favorite sci-fi flicks of the ‘60s was Fantastic
Voyage. This special effects masterpiece was based on the book
of the same name by Isaac Asimov. The whole of the movie was appealing.
One of the best parts of the film was the lovely Raquel Welch in
her role as Cora Peterson. As assistant to Arthur Kennedy as Dr.
Peter Duval, she was a valuable member of a dauntless team undertaking
a never before done mission. What an attractive woman! Brains and
beauty!
So I was very excited when Fantastic Cora premiered on CultTVMan’s
table at Wonderfest ‘06. www.wonderfest.com The
recognizable yet coincidental resemblance to Raquel was sculpted
by Joe Simon. The kit is cast in seven parts with crisp detail
and some flash. The finished model is 9” in height. One of
the best parts of the castings is the lack of bubbles! This is,
in places, accomplished with vents that will need to be trimmed
off. But I’d rather do a little trimming than a little filling!
The mold lines have been thoughtfully placed so as to miss the
natural seams in her dive suit.
Fantastic Cora has Raquel’s figure. Dressed in her dive
suit and sporting Cora’s hair do, she carries a nicely rendered
laser rifle. Her utility belt has a very well done bundle of rope
clipped to a ring on the belt. Her boots have well-rendered laces. Dive
suit details are very well done with zippers in the cuffs and teeth
in the zipper at Cora’s neckline. Hands and face are well
done with good proportion throughout.
Her base is a work in itself. With lots of organic, microscopic
looking features, the includes 3 piece base is reminiscent of the
incredible sights inside the body of Jan Benes, inventor of the
miniaturization process that saved his life. The creatively sculpted
base adds a great finishing touch to the presentation of this ‘60’s
sci-fi subject.
Little can beat a great kit of a sexy subject at a great price.

There you’ll find Fantastic Cora for $49.95. Of course, watching
the movie a time or two to refresh one’s memory is a definite
must!
