German Infantry, Battle of the Hedgerows 1944

This kit comes in a tray and lid type box. The box art is by DML’s resident artist Volstad. Per the title of the kit, it shows four German soldiers in front of a Hedgerow. A side panel of the box mentions the various heads in the kit, shows a photo of the personal gear and another shows the weapons. The box also says that this is a commemorative kit issued in 2004 to commemorate the Normandy Campaign’s 60 anniversary. This kit is actually a re-issue, having originally being issued as kit no. 6025.

Inside the box are 3 trees of light gray parts. The instructions are in full color and also painted by Volstad. This is a single sheet. It is just like we find on the back of DML’s end-opening type of boxes that they use for their figure kits. There are front and rear views of each of the 4 figures. There is also a post card with the color box art off of DML’s King Tiger kit enclosed. You can put a stamp on this and send it to one of your modeling buddies.

The largest tree in the box holds: the parts of the 4 figures (these are divided into separate heads, torsos, legs and arms). There are 2 pistols in holsters, 2 gas mask canisters, 2 steel helmets, 4 ammo sets of ammo cases for 98k rifle ammo, 2 canteens, 2 spades in pouches, one field cap, one peaked dress hat, 1 ammo case for MP-40, 1 potato masher type grenade and three mess kits. (46 parts)

Two of the figures are bare headed. One of these has his forehead bandaged. The second one has his arm wounded and bandaged. Each figure is dressed differently. The officer wears jack boots, jodpher pants, field blouse and dress hat. He is armed with an MP-40. One of the bare headed guys wears regular shoes, pants bloused into gaiters, a field blouse and is carrying a steel helmet (this is because he is the one with his head wounded). He is armed with a 98K carbine and a panzerfaust.  The guy with his arm wounded is also wearing regular shoes, his pants have a huge pocket just above the left knee, he wears a double breasted type jacket and has a peaked field cap on his head. He is armed with an MP-40.  The final figure has regular shoes, his pants are bloused into gaiters, he is wearing a reversible camouflaged smock, he is bare headed and is carrying his steel helmet. He is armed with a 98K carbine.

The medium sized parts tree holds: a ground bipod, a ammo clip for the MP-40. 2 MP-40 sub machine-guns with slings, a rifle telescope, 1 98K carbine with sling, 1 Gewehr 43 sniper’s rifle with sling, 1 Falchirmjager 42 assault rifle also with sling, 3 sets of ammo pouches for the 98K, 4 MP-40 ammo pouches, 2 canteens, a map case, 3 bayonets (2 of which are in scabbards and one not), 4 spades, 4 gas mask canisters, 4 mess kits, the four figure’s heads, 4 bread bags, four steel helmets etc. (54 parts)

The last, and smallest, parts tree holds: another 2 MP-40 sub machine guns, one more 98K carbine, one more Gewehr 43 sniper’s rifle and a panzerfaust. (5 parts)

Depending on what you arm these figures with and what equipment you put on them, you will end up with a lot of spare stuff to put into your spares box.

The molding and detail on these figures is very good.

Highly recommended for any D-Day dioramas.
