Recently, I attended a model contest in Madison, WI. I bought
6 raffle tickets and had my numbers drawn 4 times! Phenomenal!!
One of the prizes I received was a 1/35th scale figure of a German
infantryman. He came in a small sealed box. This box is opened
by pulling a strip on top. Inside is a vacuformed clear-plastic
tray and lid that contains the soldier, a base plate and a MP 40
sub-machine gun in form-fitting cavities.
The SURPRISE was that the figure is already painted at the factory!
He is excellently done too. This particular figure is posed taking
a drink from a canteen and he carries all the normal personal equipment.
He is bare-headed, with his steel helmet hung on his belt.
There is a small square base included that has some rocks and
ground cover molded into it. This too is pre-painted. The loose
MP 40 is also already painted and needs only a belt, fabricated
from paper or some other material for slinging it over his shoulder.
The thing that puzzles me, about the packaging, is how is one
supposed to determine what the heck figure is in the box. Reason
being, that the box depicts 4 Wehrmacht soldiers on one side and
4 Panzer Grenadiers on the reverse side. A lot of the wording on
the box is in Japanese and, as far as I can see, NOWHERE does it
say which of the 8 figures Doyusha markets is in the box. Very
strange indeed!
The kit was donated to the raffle by Wings N Treads Hobbies. You
can purchase one or more of these figures from them.
This has got to be the FIRST time I have ever seen a 1/35th scale
figure come already painted. If a person is too lazy or inept at
painting figures I guess these figures are designed for them. However,
I would beware of entering one in a contest and call it your assembly
and paint work. A knowledgeable judge is sure to know.
Recommended, if you want to save yourself time and energy painting
figures. I personally feel it kind of takes the fun out of the
hobby. Different strokes for different folks as the old saying
goes.
