The Kit
ICM is a modeling firm based in the Ukraine. They do a number
of AFV and figure kits in 1/35th scale, 1/48th and 1/72nd.
This kit comes in one of ICM’s usual end opening type
boxes. I am not a fan of this type of box, because parts (particularly
the decal sheets) tend to find their way past the end flap
and get lost. I prefer the tray and lid type of box. You can
put parts and assemblies into the tray as you build, to keep
them organized while assembling the kit.
The box art shows a winter scene, with 3 Soviet infantry figures
in assorted winter uniforms. There is a T-28 tank shown in
the background.
One figure is wearing quilted trousers, a white hooded parka
and knee-high boots. He is leaning on a shovel and smoking
a cigarette. His right fur-lined glove is off his hand and
hanging from a cord.
The second figure is probably an officer, because he is getting
saluted by the third figure.
He is holding a map (or something) in his right hand. He wears
a fur lined cap, that is the Mongol style with the point on
top. He has a fur-lined great coat on and knee-high fur-lined
boots that zipper up the front. He is armed with a pistol on
his hip.
The third (and last) figure is wearing a quilted top and trousers
and a fur lined cap with fold down ear flaps. He has knee high
boots, like the first figure and is wearing a pouch on the
back of his belt. As mentioned, his pose is saluting the second
figure.
A real snowy scene and a great diorama possibility.
A side panel shows the box arts for 4 other 1/35th scale figure
kits that ICM markets. French line infantry, French – Prussian
War 1870-1871 (kit no. 35061 four figures), Soviet tank crew
1939-1942 (kit no. 35181 three figures), Soviet motorized infantry
figures of the Soviet – Afghan War 1979 – 1988
(kit no. 35331 four figures) and U.S. elite forces figures – Iraq
(kit no. 35201 four figures).
The back of the box has color illustrations of these same
infantry men. Colors are called out in Humbrol brand, with
color swatches next to the listing of these colors that are
suggested to decorate the figures.
Inside the box is one lonely very light gray parts tree, a
small instruction sheet and a sheet of IMPORTANT INFORMATION
CONCERNING THIS KIT in no less than 20 languages, including
English. Each of these paragraphs has ICM’s address below
them.
The instructions consist of a small single sheet in 5 ½” x
7 ¾” format, printed on both sides. One side
has illustrations of the three figures, calling out the colors
to use with alphabetic tabs. Part assembly is indicated with
numbers of the parts. The other side of this sheet has a parts
tree drawing, which you will have to consult as only it has
part numbers shown on it. The parts tree does not. Paint colors
are called out in an alphabetic listing, in Ukrainian and English.
There is also some CAUTIONS and ICM’s address again.
The single tree of very light parts is in a sealed cello bag.
It holds the parts for the 3 figures, a rifle, 2 ammo pouches,
2 large pouches, a pistol in a holster, and a shovel.
(26 parts).
Some of the parts on the parts tree drawings are miss-numbered,
when comparing them to what the numbers are that are shown
to use on the assembly drawings. Part number 12 on the parts
tree drawing is called out as part number 13 on the assembly
drawing. These are the rifle ammo pouches
Conclusions
Although some neat figures in very interesting poses, I cannot
help but think – given the amount of plastic in this
kit – that it is very over-priced.. The detail on these
figures is excellent. Recommended.
