Background
The Su-7 was the first post-war fighter-bomber to come from the
now famous Sukhoi Design Bureau (OKB). First seen in the west,
the Su-7B Fitter A was the first operational version of this aircraft
which could carry a modest payload at supersonic speeds to targets
well inside enemy airspace. The aircraft’s highly swept wings
allowed for excellent performance once airborne, but required lots
of runway to get the aircraft off and back on the ground safely.
The Su-7B was followed by the modified Su-7BM and several other
improved versions of the basic Su-7 before the Sukhoi OKB started
experimenting with variable geometry wings leading to the Su-17/Su-22
Fitters. These aircraft had all of the advantages of a swept-wing
fighter for high-speed flight as well as the low-speed handling
of an unswept wing.
The Kit
The Attack Hobby Kits' 1/144 Su-7B Fitter kit is molded in
light gray styrene and features some beautifully cast details throughout
the kit. While not a complex kit, it will become quickly obvious
just how much detail is present once the completed model has been
weathered.
The Fitter kit offers your choice of bombs, rocket pods, and external
fuel tanks for external stores.
Despite its petite
scale though, this kit features some nice details that will look
great after assembly. This should be quick and painless
with the majority of time will be spent cleaning up the tree attachment
points, and these are minimal.
Markings are provided for two examples:
- Su-7B, Red 29, Soviet Air Force
- Su-7B, Red 78, Soviet Air Force
Conclusion
This is a nice little kit that will go together quickly. By the
way, did you notice the retail price (from Hobbyshop.cz)?
You can't beat these prices. Recommended!
My sincere thanks to Hobbyshop.cz for
