The 37mm Flak 43 L/60 auf Sf IV Ostwind (East Wind) was introduced into Anti-Aircraft platoons in 1944. As only a limited number of these vehicles were produced, the SS panzer divisions, which had priority in supplies, were the most likely to have them. Basically the Ostwind was a 37mm Flak 43 anti-aircraft weapon mounted on a Pz. Kpfw. IV chassis. This gun was light, fully automatic and gas operated. A MG 34 machine gun was also carried. The 37mm gun was mounted on a pedestal and hung from a single ring type trunnion on the right. Inside the armored turret the 37mm had an elevation of 90 degrees and a transverse of 360 degrees.
The kit consists of over 650 parts molded in Dragons standard grey plastic. 2 sheets of photo etch are included. 5 color profiles are included as well. Molding and detail are up to Dragons high standards. Key features are:
- Newly tooled turret
- Realistic weld seams
- PE parts for the engine ventilation grills
- Side fenders have detail on top and bottom
- Gun sight cover can be assembled open/closed
- Slide molded one piece gun with hollow muzzle
- Interior details in hull under turret
There is so much detail on the parts that this kit will be spectacular when finished!
My sincere thanks to Dragon Models USA for this review sample!
