Here is a timely figure from Master Details. This is a typical USAAF bombardier in the seated position ready to crew the HK Models 1/32 B-17G or B-25J kits. The figure is cast in gray resin and includes the torso, arms, legs, and chest parachute all cast separately. The figure is sculpted with the requisite cold weather gear for high-altitude bombing over Europe. The heads are cast in white metal and four options are provided: O2 mask off/goggles up, O2 mask off/goggles on, O2 mask on, goggles up, O2 mask on/goggles on. In addition, a length of oxygen hose is also provided in white metal.
The figure has the parachute harness on and correctly does not have the parachute molded in place. In the B-17, the navigator and bombardier did not wear parachutes because there was no way to move about in the nose compartment nor through the crawlway to the cockpit with a parachute strapped on. Instead, each would have a tether connected to a nearby chute so in an emergency, they can bail out and have the parachute on the tether for quick connection their harness and deployment.
If you're doing the HK Models B-17, you'll want two of these figures to man the bombardier and navigator stations. Perhaps Master Details will follow up this release with bomber pilot and gunner figures to properly crew up the B-17 and B-25 kits. In any case, this is a nice figure to pose in the nose of your next 1/32 bomber project.
This figure is available directly from the manufacturer at Master Details' website.
