Polar Lights 1/24 Star Trek Nemesis Romulan Scorpion

Background

Polar Lights started out a number of years ago reissuing many of the kits previously produced by Aurora. When these kits needed enhancements, such as the Lost In Space Robinson Family & Chariot, they re-engineered the kit and began improving on the existing kits.

Then came the day when they started releasing kits that were on the drawng board and never released. These ideas turned into full-blown kits of the Scorpion (Lost in Space TV version) and C-57D Starcruiser (Forbidden Planet).

Next Polar Lights turned its attention to Star Trek. They released snap-together USS Enterprise (TV version) and Klingon Battlecruier (TV version) kits and then produced the HUGE Enterprise NX-01 from the TV series 'Enterprise'. Of course they tackled another interesting subject that made a brief appearance in the Star Trek Nemesis movie - the Romulan Scorpion fighter. This is the first time we've seen this craft and Picard and Data use one to try to escape from inside a Romulan starship.

The Kit

The Scorpion kit is produced on fractional styrene parts trees, similar to many car kits. The kit is cast in black styrene and features snap-together construction. The exterior of the Scorpion has scribed details.

There is a minimum of painting required, mostly for the interior of Testors Europe I Gray. The more advanced modeler will want to wash and weather the kit to bring out many of the details that would otherwise disappear on an all-black model.

To make the project more interesting, the kit also includes a pair of figures to crew the Scorpion - none other than Picard and Data. The paint detail on these figures is simple and effective, though the more experienced figure painter can bring more life to these figures.

Conclusions

This project ought to be an easy build and will make for an interesting conversation piece on your shelf. Recommended for all Star Trek fans of all modeling skill levels!
