Background
The Hummer was designed to be the replacement 'Jeep'-type
utility vehicle for the US Army as the High Mobility Multipurpose
Wheeled Vehicle program in 1979 (HMMWV was finally pronounced
'Hummer' or 'HumVee'). As these highly agile vehicles rolled
into service, it wasn't long before the manufacturer, AM General,
was bombarded for civilian Hummers.
These first civilian Hummers, dubbed H1, had the same off-road
utility as their military counterparts, but also faced the
same drawbacks in town - it took two parking spaces to park,
it was loud inside, and your significant other was seated across
a massive DMZ of a center console. I think they called this
rugged romance.
At any rate, AM General started work on a more practical SUV
form factor, dubbed H2. Rather that re-inventing the wheel,
they adopted the Chevrolet Tahoe chassis for the foundation
of the vehicle and designed a Hummer-like body to round out
the package. The resulting H2 is a more comfortable vehicle
for in-town while retaining some of the H1's off-road capabilities.
The Kit
In their growing line of die-cast body kits, Revell has turned
out another impressive kit. This H2 body comes completely finished
with all of the window seal trim, lights, and chrome details.
This particular release is made up to look like one of the
police vehicles on the television series Crime Scene Investigation
(CSI) Miami. While the doors are closed, the rear hatch is
hinged to be positionable/movable.
The remainder of the kit is standard styrene with chassis
parts molded in black and interior parts molded in blue-gray.
There are no markings to put on this vehicle as everything
is pre-finished.
The dash board has its instruments, the rear-view
mirrors and nicely plated, and of course the chrome wheels
are chromed. Aside from some detail painting, there won't
be much paint required on this project. Revell has done most
of the work for you.
This is not a snap kit as a tube of cement is included in
the kit. Nevertheless, the kit will be a snap to assemble as
you can see the simplicity of the design and all of the pre-finished
details in these photos.
Conclusion
This kit will be an easy build, and will definitely look nice
on the shelf. This kit is a must-have for CSI fans and Hummer
fans will enjoy the details in this kit.
My sincere thanks to Revell-Monogram
for this review sample!
