Background
John Greenwood was a racing fan whose passion for the sport finally pushed him
into the driver's seat. His weapon of choice was the 427-powered Corvette. After
attending road racing school and obtaining his Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)
license, John set out to win. He spent 1969 competing in SCCA events and 1970, he
had become the national champion in A/Production class, of course driving the
427 Corvette.
John built a special C2 Corvette for the 12-hour 1971 Sebring Road Race, finished
in red/white/blue, and of course powered by the 427 engine. His co-driver was none
other than Dick Smothers (for those of us old enough to remember when Paul McCartney
was in a group before Wings) of the Smothers Brothers comedy duo. In this race, John
came in first in GT class and seventh overall.
The Kit
This kit is molded in white styrene on five parts trees as well as the body,
with nice details throughout. One tree is provided with chromed parts, another
tree containing the clear parts, and a small tree with the red tail light lenses.
Assembly begins with the 427 engine, with details present down to the distributor
and the oil filter. The special rear-end suspension is next, with lots of nice detailing
opportunities. The front-end suspension and chassis are next, with additional detailing
present, including the radiator hoses.
A nice interior is also provided, though most of it is black, so here will be an interesting
opportunity to detail out the interior with different shades and glossiness levels of black.
In the final assembly, be sure to install the headlight decals before installing the clear
light covers.
The decals are printed by Cartograf of Italy and are in perfect register. Revell-Monogram has
released an amended decal instruction sheet for this kit on their website.
Conclusion
This kit will be an easy build, and with basically a black interior and a white exterior (not
counting decals), it should be a straightforward project.
My sincere thanks to Revell-Monogram
for this review sample!
