First Look

AK Interactive has been producing a very wide range of paints and weathering products over the last several years targeted to the armored fighting vehicle and figure modelers. In this release, we have their tutorial set for mastering the art of 'chipping', recreating that unique effect when paint chips away from aircraft and armored vehicles.

AK Interactive AK 0138 Chipping Essentials Weathering Set

This set contains four bottles which include:

  • AK088 Worn Effects
  • AK089 Heavy Chipping
  • AK711 Chipping Color
  • AK139 Aluminum Chipping

This set also includes a booklet to walk you through the process of using the worn effects and heavy chipping fluids between coats of paint to facilitate selective removal of small spots to larger areas (such as walkways) where paint will get worn through. Two colors are also provided including the chipping color which replicates that unique color under paint where rust has built up before the paint flakes away. A bottle of aluminum is also included for providingt the correct color under the painted surfaces of aircraft and aluminum-based armored vehicles like the M113.

If you want to try out this approach to replicating this type of paint wear on your next project, grap this set complete with its instructions and you'll be impressed with the possibilities.

My sincere thanks to AK Interactive for this review sample!
