First Look

AK Interactive is the world leader in advanced products for weathering and finishing scale models. Each product has been carefully designed and tested on real models by real modelers. The AK products are designed to be easy to use and to save time.

The products to create the effects of streaking dirt are the basic pillar of the whole range of products from AK Interactive. These effects can be seen on vehicles from almost any time period and give a very realistic aspect even when no other effects are added.

AK Interactive Wash and Streaking Effects

AK Interactive washes are the market leader with the biggest range of specific washes for modeling. All of the AK washes are enameled based for easier blending. With the AK Interactive washes the modeler is able to achieve many effects such as rust, rain marks, grime and many others.

The products from AK Interactive are very easy to use and the possibilities of what can be achieved are nearly endless. I have used almost all of the various colors of both the wash mixes and the streaking effects. While they are labeled as to what they are for based on your base color, feel free to mix and match!

I have found that the washes work best for me when applied over a satin acrylic finish. I use a small round brush and apply the wash around all the raised details and into any panel lines that are present. After letting the wash set for a couple of minutes, any extra can be cleaned up with a brush that is damp with thinner (not wet or you will lose the effect!).

The Streaking Effect is applied with a small bush in a vertical line and after waiting for a couple of minutes, I blend them into the base colors with a wide flat brush dampened with thinner. If you are unhappy with the results, just wet the area with more thinner and simply remove the effect.

The best recommendation on these products is to sit down and just use them. It is still amazing to me just how much control you have over these products!

My sincere thanks to AK Interactive USA for this review sample!
