First Look

Ammo by Mig Jimenez is family of paints and weathering products designed to take your models to the next step. Master modeler Mig Jimenez helped to launch another paint line by developing and teaching modelers how to make achieve great results with those products. A few years ago, he created his own company and developed a new series of products to tackle areas overlooked by other paint companies.

In this release, they've created a combination of paints used to replicate the colors of modern ammunition (tank as well as artillery). What makes this especially interesting is a new color they call metallic blue which matches the anodized blue not only on certain projectiles, but is used on plumbing couplers on vehicles and aircraft as well.

This set consists of six 17ml bottles of acrylic paints and each bottle has a mixing ball inside to make the job of getting those pigments stirred back up much easier. The colors in this set include:

  • Silver-Gray FS 26373
  • Warhead Metallic Blue
  • Brass
  • Satin Black
  • US Olive Drab FS 24087
  • Aluminum (Metallic)

This combination of colors (including at least one new color) will make the job of getting those colors right on your tank and artillery rounds, giving you more reason to create a diorama or vignette in which to show these being loaded into the vehicle.

It is nice to have good color/paint options when working on your more in-depth projects, especially colors that interoperate well with other brands.

My sincere thanks to Ammo by Mig Jimenez for this review samples!
