Here's a subject near and dear to me - the venerable C-130 Hercules.
While I haven't logged anywhere as many hours in the bird as our
own Stephen Sutton or Kelly Jamison, I still pause when I hear
the sound of a Herc taxiing out first thing in the morning, then
laugh it off when I remember how early their briefing must have
been to be out of the chocks first thing. At any rate, there has
been little published on the details of the Herc since the latest
rounds of self-defense sensors started getting installed. Dataview
Publishing has been out in the field with taking some nice detail
shots of these areas as well as inside the flap wells and around
the cargo compartment of your standard H-model airlifter.
What is definitely new and interesting is not only a look at the
C-130J, but one configured in the Commando Solo configuration.
These aircraft have a self-contained radio and television broadcast
capability while airborne as well as the ability to conduct electronic
warfare. The Commando Solo III sports many of the same antenna
fairings as their EC-130Es that these replaced.
This title does a nice walk around of the unique features of the
generic J-model, mainly those Rolls Royce engines and Dowty Rotol
propellers, as well as the various antennas and fairings that contribute
to the aircraft's drag index.
This sample was electronic, in Adobe Acrobat(tm)
.PDF format. If you have high-speed
internet access, you can download the title in a few minutes, and
for $1.99, is an inexpensive reference to have around, not to mention
not taking up space on a bookshelf!
This title is available directly from the publisher at Dataview
Publications (www.dataviewbooks.com).
My sincere thanks to Dataview
Publications for this review sample!
