Here's a title aimed straight for the modeler from Dataview Publications. This is their first aircraft offering and it is quite timely - the F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

The title starts off with a brief discussion of the history of the Hornets and a brief glimpse at the F/A-18A and F/A-18B. The real coverage starts with the F/A-18C.

This title is a compilation of US Navy and NASA photos combined with up-close shots of the aircraft on the flightline. Most photo pages contain only one picture per page, giving you essentially an 8"x10" detail shot at your fingertips. What's more, the title is spiral-bound so you can easily prop any page open for reference whilst working on the bench.

The coverage of this informative title is presented as follows:.

  • Introduction
  • F/A-18A
  • F/A-18A+
  • F/A-18B
  • F/A-18C
  • F/A-18C Close-up
  • Weapons
  • F/A-18D
  • Super Hornet
  • Super Hornet Close-up

With the exception of the front and rear cover color photos, all of the material inside is laser-printed black & white. Note the retail price of only $8.99 USD? If you're wanting a full-color version of this title, this too is available at $25.99. If you're looking for color references, get the color title, but if you're looking for details, stick with the black & white. There is a reason why photo-interpreters still use black & white imagery even today. Details that are usually obscured in color stand out in black & white.

If you're getting ready to build the 1/48 Hornets from Hasegawa, the 1/48 Super Hornets from Revell or Hasegawa, or the magnificent 1/32 Academy Hornets, then this is reference is just what you need on your work bench. This title is highly recommended!

This title is available directly from the publisher at Dataview Publications (www.dataviewbooks.com).

My sincere thanks to Dataview Publications for this review sample!
