SAM Publications has released the first in their 'Scaled Down' Modeller's Data Files, this once covering U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps Aggressors. This title provides an nice look at a cross section of aggressor and adversary aircraft used in dissimilar air combat training (DACT) including Top Gun and Red Flag. The subjects covered with lots of full-color images include:

  • A-4 Skyhawk (USN/USMC)
  • F/A-18 Hornet (USN/USMC)
  • F-21 Lion (USMC)
  • F-16 'Vipers' (USAF)
  • F-5E Tiger (USN/USMC)
  • F-5E Tiger (USAF)
  • F-16 'Vipers' (USN)
  • F-15 Eagle (USAF)

The title provides a quick-look at the aircraft and squadrons operating as aggressor (USAF) and adversary (USN/USMC) roles and include color profiles of many of the camouflage schemes worn by these aircraft. At the end of the title are a list of kits and decals that were available for many of the above subjects though some of the kits and most of the decals listed haven't been available for some time.

As a quick-look at the subject, this is a nice tailored title that suits the purpose. A more complete title that also includes the colorful schemes, users, and operations of the T-38 Talon, T-2 Buckeye, A-7 Corsair II, F-5A/B Freedom Fighter, F-14 Tomcat would be welcome. While there is a brief mention of some of these latter subjects at the end of this title, it is unfortunate that they fall into the 'also starred' credits. A more complete title would also include four view color profiles (top, bottom, left, right) of each of the illustrated camouflage schemes to provide a useful resource for the modeler to replicate the subjects provided only as left views in this title.

My sincere thanks to SAM Publications for this review sample!
