Review
SAM Publications has released the second in their 'Scaled Down' Modeller's Data Files, this once covering the Phantom in British service. This title provides an nice look at a FG.1 and FGR.2 in service as well as F-4Js that were acquired after the Falkland Islands war to provide a stop-gap defense capability until the delayed Panavia Tornado ADV was available. The subjects covered with lots of full-color images include:
- The British Phantom
- Fleet Defence - Royal Navy Phantoms
- Fighter, Ground Attack and Reconnaissance - The RAF Phantom
- American Supplement - The F-4J(UK)
- South Atlantic Phantoms - Falkland Islands Operations
- Phantom Squadrons
- Color Side Views
- Modelling the British Phantom
- Kitography
- Appendix I - FG.1 and F-4J(UK) Walk Arounds
This title is a concise look at the subjects with beautiful color images to assist the modeler in replicating the unique details of the F-4K and F-4M (FG.1 and FGR.2 respectively). colors and markings, as well as the available kits and aftermarket products that will help your next project. This title brings a great deal of useful information under one cover that will especially be appreciated by non-British modelers who don't have ready access to full-scale examples in nearby museums.
This is another handy title from SAM Publications and is a must-have reference for Phantom modelers everywhere.
My sincere thanks to SAM Publications for this review sample!
