I was pleasantly surprised to see a copy of Smoke Trails sitting at the IPMS National Convention last year in Phoenix and standing next to it was Jack Callaway, the Journal's editor. I remember the first few years of Smoke Trails and I think I still have all of those copies stashed somewhere in my shelves. At some point in time, I lost touchSmoke Trails and over the years I thought this fine publication had gone west, but it is very much alive and well.
Smoke Trails is the official journal of the F-4 Phantom II Society and each issue looks at different aspects, uses, and history for the F-4 not only within the US military, but also among its many international users. Unlike those early issues of Smoke Trails, the current publication is printed on high quality glossy stock and virtually all of it is in color.
This issue is Volume 18 Number 3 and its coverage includes:
- Japan Tour 2009 (JASDF Phantoms)
- The President's Message
- Sherman 01 Found
- On the Bookshelf
- Phantom in Review
- The Modeling Corner
- Anatolian Eagle (Turkish Phantoms)
A membership to the F-4 Phantom II Society and subscription to this great publication will run you $40 per year which will provide you with four (quarterly) issues. Note that there is only one page in the back that has advertising, the rest of this publication is all substance.
My sincere thanks to F-4 Phantom II Society for this review sample!
